• Hi, my name is Mac but my foster Mom calls me Macky Baby because she says I have the sweetest puppy face!

I had a rough life before my owner loved me enough to surrender me to GRRH. These past 5 months have had their ups and downs. Some of you may remember me as I have been on the available page before, but GRRH decided to take me down until they have a complete handle on my issues. I am happy to report that I am finally on my way to a happy and healthy life thanks to the loving care given to me by my various foster homes! The biggest source of my problems have been recurring ear infections which are painful and cause me to have serious anxiety. I have flea allergies which can really cause skin issues as well. I became fearful of anything new and was sensitive to the changes in the barometric pressure and thunderstorms. The kind Vets prescribed all sorts of medications to help me including prednisone, trazadone and antibiotics. All of which had their own side effects!

My current foster Mom has worked with me and helped me gain confidence and I now have a safe place in my crate to retreat to if I am nervous. She also continued the treatment of sleeping in my thundershirt just to feel secure, but I am happy to report I don't need to sleep in it anymore!..

I am now under the care of a Dermatologist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialist and they have me on a new medication regimen. I have been weaned me off of prednisone and antibiotics and I am taking a non-steriod medication that is addressing my itchy skin and ear infections. My foster Mommy wanted me off of Trazadone so she slowly weaned me off that as well and replaced it with CBD oil  or CBD chews twice a day . I no longer show extreme anxiety, sleep through the night and only have anxiety if I am in pain or there is a really bad thunderstorm. I am also on Simparica trio.

While I love my foster Mommy, I am ready for my own forever home! I currently have a foster brother but frankly, I think I would be just fine being an only child as I don't really play with him and don't share toys very well. I would prefer to be your special companion and go everywhere with you. Because of my history with anxiety I really want a  home where someone is home most of the time as I don't think it will be an easy adjustment to go to a home where I am alone for 8-9 hours a day.

I love, love, love car rides and will try to get into cars of strangers if they leave their doors open! I can go to restaurants that allow dogs and lay quietly at your feet while you eat. I love my walks and never react to other dogs although I have started becoming VERY curious about the cats in the neighborhood. Mommy tells me I need leash work. I think it's because I have very definite opinions of the route I want to take and can become stubborn and refuse to move when she wants to take a turn and I want to go straight. I have good manners in the house and I know to sit and am working on down and stay. I wait patiently to be told to eat, but I love treats and can be a little grabby. Mom is working on me to be more gentle and I am super smart so i will learn anything you want to teach me.

If you are interested and think you want to love me and show me what the good life can really be, please fill out an application at GRRH.org. Be sure and read all guidelines and requirements  for adoption. If you are an approved adopter already please contact your coordinator and ask if we can meet soon.

    Love Macky
